Rodney. Missing. Part of the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival
Venue Melbourne Town Hall
Date March 27 - April 11, 2010.
A theatre show for all ages, running daily through the school holidays except Monday.

How do you lose an 11,564 kilogram elephant?

John Johnson and Rodney the Elephant are a world-renowned circus duo. After much anticipation, the Melbourne premiere is moments away. There's just one problem... Rodney is missing.

But the show must go on. Eternally optimistic Johnson attempts to perform the show without his gargantuan sidekick. How can he distract the audience from the elephant not in the room?

This buoyant, physical comedy artfully combines the traditions of the vaudevillian street clown with rich and moving storytelling. Rodney. Missing. is a poignant and often absurd exploration of friendship and the power of imagination.

Book Avoid the queue! Pre-book your tickets: Titanicmelbourne.com or 13 11 02

Delicate bottles of perfume, china bearing the logo of the elite White Star Line, even a piece of the hull of the Titanic - these and many other objects collected from the wreck site offer poignant connections to lives abruptly ended or forever changed by one of the world's greatest maritime disasters.

As they enter the exhibition, each visitor is presented with a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger, drawing them back in time to 1912 and the ship's fateful maiden voyage. Then begins a journey through the life of the Titanic, from construction to life on board, to its ill-fated voyage, tragic sinking and the amazing efforts to recover artefacts.

Along the way visitors will marvel at the full-size recreation of the ship's Grand Staircase, learn countless stories of heroism and humanity and even press their palms against an 'iceberg'.

Over the past 3 years, Dominic Rowswell, the organiser behind the UK's Bicker Gallery has organised shows in temporary venues in London and Bristol, commonly called 'pop up shows'. This allows the artists work not to be limited to the normal conventional gallery space. The 'pop up' shows also enable the gallery to adapt accordingly to the artists wishes, all the while keeping the audience interested by inviting them to visit spaces that they might not ordinarily visit.

Previous shows have been held in such places as High Street shops, a disused underground station, an old police station and a converted warehouse. The venue is not revealed until a couple of weeks prior to the gallery opening.

'Wonderlust' is the work of British born Yorkshire artist, Xenz aka Graeme Brusby, who began painting graffiti in the derelict warehouses of Hull during the early 90s and studied textiles at Edinburgh College of Art. He then he moved to Bristol (UK) in the late 90s where he made an impact on the cities walls with consistent output of fresh inspiring artwork.

Defries' Wright engine - Centenary of flight in Australia display

Date 18 March 2010 until 17 October 2010
Fee Adults $8, Children and Concession FREE
Book phone 03 9392 4800 or visit museumvictoria.com.au/scienceworks
2010 marks the centenary of powered flight in Australia, or does it? On Thursday 18 March the engine from what is believed to have been the first aircraft to fly in Australia will go on display at Scienceworks, highlighting the achievement, drama and controversy of early flight in Australia.

The engine will be on display in Going Places: The Technology of Transport, an exhibition that explores how science makes it possible to fly, float and cover vast distances as we move around the globe. Going Places includes a flight simulator and hands-on exhibits focusing on airships and airport security.

On 9 December 1909, English racing driver Colin Defries piloted a Wright Model A airplane, (named 'The Stella' after Defries' wife) travelling approximately 100 yards (91m). The flight was witnessed and reported by several reliable sources, but was not officially recognised.

Australia's first official flight is instead credited to the famous magician and escape artist Harry Houdini who, while on tour through Victoria, flew a Voisin biplane at Digger's Rest on 18 March, 1910.

Defries' airplane was lost when its owner, Lawrence Adamson, dumped it at sea off Port Phillip Bay to avoid paying a hefty customs fee. The Wright's engine and its two propellers were salvaged in late 1910.

The display at Scienceworks joins celebrations across Museum Victoria marking the centenary of flight:
-Visit the replica of the original Duigan biplane at the Melbourne Museum foyer, the first Australian built aircraft, designed and flown by John Duigan on 16 July 1910 at Mia Mia, near Kyneton.

Other events across Victoria include:
-Digger’s Rest Festival of Flight Thursday 18 - Sunday 21 March
Celebrate the centenary of Harry Houdini's flight at Diggers Rest with a commemoration ceremony on Thursday 18 March and a weekend of celebrations 20 to 21 March, including an array of aircrafts that have flown in Australian skies over the last 100 years, a flying display, live entertainment and kids' activities. The Digger's Rest Festival of Flight is organised by the Shire of Melton.

The display includes Henry 'birdman' Grace's collection of hand-made bird whistles donated to the Library by his family. The eccentric Sydney street character designed his own bird whistles and bird notation so that he may 'talk with the birds'!

The objects range from the historically significant, such as rare WW1 memorabilia and the typewriter used by Nobel Prize winner Patrick White, to the sentimental and beautiful, like Dame Nellie Melba's Cartier hairpin case.
